BOGO And B1G1 Redefined

Definitions of English words often change quite rapidly these days. In the not-too-distant past the definition of words was often set in concrete. Today the meaning can change in the blink of an eye. With new and faster ways to exchange ideas and with wider and more culturally, socially and educationally diverse groups connecting together - words are put back on the hard anvil of evolution and transformed into something new and more reflective of current life and living.

There is a growing significant movement happening global where consumers are asking businesses to look after the things they care about such as the environment and the less fortunate in society. The request is still mainly tacit and despite it being an ironic request it still signals we are in a time of great change. Consumers these days want their ‘toys’ but they don’t want the environment to be destroyed in the creation of these. They want cheap products but they do not want workers to be paid a pittance to create the cheap products.

There may not seem an answer to this complex puzzle and yet one actually exists. It exists in the reforging of a simple single word - GET. Today there is a new movement of people wanting to get but give at the same time and they are reforging its meaning into the word GIVE.

Every day automated email notices arrive in my inbox from Google Alerts for two keywords - BOGO and B1G1. I see all the new places these words are turning up on the Internet. Little by little these two words are gaining a their new meaning as more and more people take up the Buy One Give One cause.

The B1G1 and BOGO acronyms both stand for Buy One GET One free. You buy one and you get given an extra one for free.

If you look on Wikipedia you will find these definitions for BOGO (there isn’t a definition yet for B1G1 - there will be soon when I write one!):

* An acronym in the retail industry that stands for Buy One Get One. For example, you could say “Buy 1 DVD, Get 1 FREE!

* An acronym in slang British that stands for Britons Of Greek Origin or Greek Britons.

* Bogo, Cebu, a city in central Philippines.

* An alternate name for the Bilen ethnic group of Ethiopia or their language, Blin.

* Norway, a village in Norway.

* The mascot of the ITESM CEM.

* BogoMips, an unscientific measurement of CPU speed

* Bogosort, an ineffective sorting algorithm

BOGO Lights - torches that give

There is an organisation in the USA called SunLight Solar founded by a gentleman called Mark Bent. He has created a special torch that not only is an amazing and robust solar-powered light; his company also gives a free torch to a family in need in developing nations for each one purchased. If you look on their website you will learn about their “BOGOlight”.

BOGOlight.com. - “The BoGo - our Buy one/Give one - program has successfully provided lights to many, many thousands of people in the developing world, changing lives because of your purchase and participation.”

Mark Bent has managed to flip the meaning of the BOGO acronym upside down. For Mark along with thousands of his customers, BOGO now means Buy One GIVE One. A light is given whenever one is sold. Now each sale supports people in remote parts of the world who don’t have the benefit of electricity. They can now tap into solar power support themselves.

There are many other well known and many less well know businesses doing Buy One Give One giving, or transaction-based giving as its becoming known. Some of the famous companies are OLPC - One-Laptop-Per-Child and TOM’S Shoes. Some of the less well-known ones (in the US at least) are based in Oceania and the UK - Earthstar Publishing, Maple Muesli, Blinds Couture, Figure 8 Body Chains, Sunsplash Homes, Honestly Women magazine and Thavibu Gallery based in Thailand are just a small handful of these special businesses that are leading the Buy One Give One movement.

There are many Buy One Give One businesses now uniting under the common brand banner of Buy1GIVE1 managed by a Singapore based social enterprise which is becoming the home of transaction-based giving. Any business in the world can now integrate Buy One Give One giving with ease. It’s like a ‘CSR plug-in’ allowing a business to instantaneously start giving from each and every sale, starting from just 1 cent. It’s also no longer about giving an equivalent product to someone else. Instead it is about contributing to a project that resonates with a company’s activity. For example a restaurant can feed a child, a television retailer can give a cataract blind person the gift of sight (Get Vision-Give Vision), a magazine publisher can plant a tree every time they sell a subscription and a property developer can build a low-cost family home for those in need (Buy1BUILD1) - the list is simply endless.

Something special is happening these days as more and more people are switching onto giving and ‘citizen brands’ as a part of their everyday experience. The 2008 Edelman Goodpurpose global study of consumer attitudes reveal that almost seven in 10 (68%) consumers would choose to remain loyal to a brand during a recession if it supports a good cause, and 71% say that when they think about the economic downturn, they have either given the same or more time and money to good causes. This very same study highlighted some other major things as well like:

* 54% would promote a brand and its products if there was a good cause behind it.

* and 54% would champion a brand to promote a product if there was a good cause behind it.

* Consumers are now voicing a clear desire for marketers to associate their brands to social causes. 42% say that if two products or services were of a similar quality and price, commitment to a cause outranks factors like innovation, design and brand loyalty when selecting one brand over another.

Turning Getting into Giving

In the minds of consumers, Buy One GIVE One is expected to replace Buy One GET One as the new global giving movement led by Buy1GIVE1 spreads. Certainly with the massive sales results and consumer demand shown for companies like BOGOlights, One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) and TOMS Shoes, this tide will continue to spread and grow.

I did a recent Google search to find the top 25 keywords associated with the keywords BOGO and B1G1. The results were interesting indeed seeing none of them contained the word Give. You can see the results below. It will be interested to repeat this experiment in 12 months time to see what changes. Consumers are now starting to drive significant change and despite them wanting to receive free gifts (as in traditional BOGO/B1G1), they equally want to help others and the environment. This feeling is validated by 2008’s Goodpurpose global study.

Transaction-based or transactional giving

Unlike traditional charity giving, Buy One Give One giving is transactional in that every time you buy something, you give something. In the case of SunNight Solar they happen to give a physical light for every light sold. However, in most cases, Buy1GIVE1 associated businesses give in a different way. At Buy1GIVE1, giving can start from just USD 1c contribution per sale and go up to thousands of dollars in the case of Buy1BUILD1. At 1cent almost every business in the world can afford to give from each sale especially when they know 100% contributed goes to the cause.

The actual amount given from each and every sale is not the point of focus with Buy1GIVE1 transaction based giving. It is not about saying 10% is contributed or 5c from each sale - instead the focus is on the story and sharing the simple joy of giving. In the end, if you think that 1c is not a lot to contribute and is not likely to make much of a difference think again and consider the following.

Coffee consumption has spread globally and Brazil is by far the largest coffee producer in the world producing on average 28% of all coffee grown. In 2006 Brazil grew enough coffee to brew 216,400,000,000 (216 billion 400 million) espresso coffees! If we were to make this calculation across global production amounts then we get an amazing number for the daily global consumption of around 2,117,416,830 (2 billion 117 million) cups of coffee - wow! The figures are not easy to find but if we guessed that around 40% of the world’s coffee is purchased in coffee shops then we would find that 846 million 966,732 cups are sold commercially each day globally - almost 900 million. This would equate to about’5 million cups in the US alone seeing they purchase around 21% of the world’s coffee.

If we considered the impact of the coffee industry alone taking up Buy1-Give1, imagine now that for every cup of coffee sold a child in a developing region like Sub-Sahara Africa received clean drinking water from a well and it only costing 1cent to do this. Surely any coffee shop could afford to contribute this amount from the sale of a single cup of coffee. Imagine the different that this one action alone would make in the world.

Transactional giving is the story of the thousand-mile journey starting with that first single step. Digging a well costs a few thousand dollars so it’s a big barrier for communities in developing nations. However if you break the cost down it only takes the sale of a cup of coffee to give clean water to a single person for a day1. This is the power of transactional giving. It is like the compound interest of giving - a little turns into a lot very quickly.

So many companies are used to doing things on their own. Doing transactional giving is no different. A company can go out find a cause and start doing Buy One Give One giving. And yet they are missing the point when they do this. Buy1GIVE1 giving is about sharing the joy of giving and not trying to change the world. As soon as you step up and say you are going to change the world then the world will step up and challenge you. Within a heartbeat a company would experience the sharp scrutiny of the media inspecting their every move. And yet when a company steps up and says it is supporting what its customer want and joins with others in its industry to do that in a win-win way, the story is different. When companies choose to join together under a commonly recognised banner/brand they can have a powerful joint effect. The ripple that a single company creates is added to that of another and the ripple grows into a tidal wave that benefits so many. This is the power of giving and doing things together.

The final power of Buy One Give One transaction based giving is that everyone wins - the consumer wins - at no extra cost to themselves they have made a difference through their purchasing choices - the business wins in so many ways - and the worthy cause or charity wins because they can now receive small amounts from many sources all aggregated and paid as a lump sum from a single source if done through the Buy1GIVE1 service.

A new start - a new world - new thinking

If you go and check Wikipedia.com today for the word BOGO you should find that a new definition has been added. It’s time for a tide-change - a change from focusing on GETTING to working with GIVING. I added this small addition to Wikipedia’s BOGO definition: “… an acronym in the marketing industry that stands for Buy One GIVE One.”

Just imagine our world where every time you shopped and bought something you gave something - automatically and seamlessly. This is the simple joyful magic of transaction based giving.

This is the world I choose to be a part of.

And remember - you don’t ‘get’ giving till you get giving.

The Truth About Freemasonry Exposed - Masonic Secrets

Freemasons have often made the claim that any member may practice any religion they choose provided they believe in a “Supreme Being”. Christians have wondered if it is appropriate for them to belong to this fraternity particularly when the Roman Catholic Church has banned Catholics from becoming part of that society.

There have been many writers and religious leaders that have openly condemned the Masons and there are several books written on the subject. Amongst some of the other religions, it is believed that the Freemasons are a group whose main goal is for world unification. One author happened to pass away shortly after publishing an anti mason book called the Brotherhood. His death created talk that the author had been killed because of orders from the Lodge.

Some of the stronger anti Masons claim that even Albert Pike who was a well-known Mason admitted that The Masons serve Lucifer. They have been accused as being racist and pagan. The stories will go to the point where they state that Mason will actually commit murder to protect their highly secretive rituals.

The Freemasons are accurately known for their support of Hiram. He was the stonemason that worked on the Temple of Solomon. It is said that the Freemasons of today have placed Hiram on such a high pedestal they actually worship him.

It?s hard to determine what facts many of the anti Mason authors have based their conclusions on. The Freemasons are widely known for their secrecy so it would be hard for one of the many authors to obtain factual information without actually filtrating the organization. One such author, William Schnoebelen has been said to claim himself as once being a Satanist as well as ex-Mormon and ex-Mason. He claims that the Masons are party to the 50,000 ritual murders that have taken place yearly across North America.

Another famous author claims that Masons have an agenda to go to libraries to remove anti Mason books and find any sensitive Mason historical documents. Naturally it would be fair to say that the Freemasons adamantly refute all of these allegations. They claim they are just a simple society of Brotherhood that have joined for fellowship.

The Freemasons will stand on the support of Wallace McLeod is purported as being one of the most knowledgeable Masonic Historian as well as professing Christian. He indicates that much of the anti mason knowledge and literature is lies and half-truths. He supports the claim that Albert Pike never indicated the worship of Satan.

All the claims that Freemasons are involved in murder are denied as well, with the exception of one case. This particular case involves an ex-mason by the name of William Morgan who wrote an expose on the secret rituals of the Masonry. It believed that a few radical Masons killed him over this expose, but this was not with the blessings of the Masons as a whole.

Somewhere the musings of the Freemasons had to start. It is believed that it is all based on Albert Pikes, Masonic Rites and Wrongs?. Apparently, Pike referred to parallel drawing going back in History to Egyptian religions were occult in nature. The Freemasons claim they pay little regard to this type of teaching in todays modern ages. There they have been other key figures who have Masons rituals for the purpose of the occult but the body of the Freemasons does not condone this.

When all of the issues are summarized, the Freemasons feel that the negativity towards them is based on their acceptance of all religious sectors and not just Christianity. It could be said that all according to the Masons acceptance of all religions that they feel all lead to heaven.

It has been perceived that although at one time it was highly probably that blood rituals were part of this Fraternity it has long since been dispelled with.

Therefore, when it comes down to the Masons stand on Christianity it would seem that no matter who argues what there is no positive answers to this long lasting question.

The Conspiracy Of Freemasonry - Masonic Secrets Exposed

Quite often, the Freemasonry is referred to as an Occult Science. The Freemasonry originates back to about the 1600?s. They class themselves as a Fraternity. The Freemasons rely on the symbols to which they only know the meaning of. They will sometimes refer to the greatest architect of the world. This is known as the creator and the freemasons take it upon themselves to pay homage to his presence and recognize his actions.

Some of the anti Freemasons believe that this fraternity is a satanic cult. This is based on the premise that this organization is an Occult science. It is believed that Satan uses the occult sciences to control the world. Some believe that a satanic organization is a worldwide spread that has the ability to influence people. These groups have their own agenda when it comes to spiritualism, finances and political view. In the concepts that are used to influence others into believing that, what they are promoting is factual. Some people believe that the entire financial world is under the control of the occult. To add to these particular people feel that even current day religions and the law enforcement agencies are under this evil control as well.

Some will even go further into believing that the media is under the control of the Freemasonry. This is based on their thought that are of the large systems worldwide belonging to a handful of prominent families. It is believed that these families use their business to control the finances of the world. An example of this would be the Banks. It begins a roll over effect that the inflation index including the existing interest rates are totally dependant on the occults. Believers who feel that the occult exists think it was created to be able to determine whatever challenges may present themselves. From having powerful plus international infrastructure this makes it feasible.

Those who believe this premise is applicable to the Freemasons feel that it?s through their numerous branches and organization that they are united. This means that occult believers feel it?s the leaders that are the real messengers of Satan. This is the culprit who gives the instructions to the Leaders and may appear in a human form. It would mean that the money system of the world as well as the political bodies would be under this rule, if what these people are saying were correct.

Occult believers? state that if you joint one of the occults then you be accepted and included in their secrets and will end up being demon possessed which leads to modern slavery.

Being as everyone is entitled to their opinions it would be difficult to determine who is right in their beliefs. It has been a topic of conversation for a long period as to whether the Freemasons are in fact an occult or just a very secretive organization or even a sect of religion. There have been some very prominent individuals over the years that have been in the Freemasonry. This does not make it an acceptable organization just because of these individuals.

Discover Secret Freemasonry Members You Never Knew

There has been speculation over the years that Shakespeare was a creator of Freemasonry. This is being based on two major plays of Shakespeare being the Love?s Labors Lost and the Tempest. It is purported that these two plays are symbolic to Masonic values. Then there are others that further support this theory by referring to MacBeth.

MacBeth is said to be the story of the horrific murder of Hiram Abiff who is said to be the main figure in the Masonic ritual. Hiram Abiff was one of the original three Grand Masters during the early inception of this organization. The story about Hiram Biff is intriguing.

The legend has it that during the construction of Kings Solomon?s temple that Abiff promised his architects that he would tell them all of the secrets of the Master Mason once the temple was completed. Three of the architects did not want to wait and tried to force the secrets out of Abiff to no avail. So these three workers ended up killing Abiff. Now apparently once a Mason has reached the third degree level he must carry out a mock ritual killing as it took place regarding Abiff.

You may have noticed something consistent in what we have said so far. This is in reference to the number three. There were ? 3 Grand Masters 3 architects who committed the murder 33 degrees or levels within the organization 3 Principal Officers 3 Symbolic steps 3 Obligations 3 lights upon the alter 3 pillars that support the Lodge 3 knocks to be allowed into the Lodge 3 knocks to call the members to order

It is believed that the whole Mason?s organization was and still is based on alchemy.

So getting back to MacBeth and reading between the lines determining if Shakesphere was truly a Mason take a look at the following interesting facts.

The play depicts? 3 witches -spoke the words Fair is foul, foul is fair. Hecate has 3 roles

As the play, goes on scholars have made many interpretations regarding its inference to Masonry although extremely complex, it leaves one open to wondering.

Alchemy and the Masons share in common the perception of positives and negatives as being common elements. The Grand Commander Albert Pike summed up the overview of these elements by stating that Satan was a force created for good, which may serve evil. The beliefs go on to the point where it indicates that man is free to do good or evil. This is where the connotation in MacBeth by the witches is said to equate with the belief of the Masons. Thus just another similarity that leads some to believe that the play is based on certain characteristics of the Masons.

It is most difficult to understand the parallels here without first having MacBeth and understanding the play. If those that believe that Shakesphere was indeed at least even a Mason of no standing then MacBeth does give an in-depth in sight to the organization, which keeps itself shrouded in secrecy. On the other hand for those that do not believe there is any correlation between MacBeth and the Masons they still must admit there is a lot of speculation based on the coincidental.

The Secrecy Of Freemasonry & Its Relation To Christianity

Its quite well known that the much of the negativity that is shown towards the Freemasons is based on what is believed to be their secrecy. It would seem with all of the books and materials that have been published over the years there couldn’t possibly be any secrets left unturned if there were some in the first place. Others state that because the secrecy is the priority of the Masons what goes on has never been really released. The Masons look at the fact of keeping their rituals a secret as a bond and not some sinister act. Pro Masons will tell you there are no blood oaths or ceremonies that take place amongst the Masons and certainly no physical violence.

Anti Masons who refer to violence by way of punishment within the Mason walls have been said to glean their information from historical data of the Masons. This is not to say that the Masons of the 1700’s were party to violent acts either. It is said that their references from those days in regards to punishment was purely symbolic.

So where does the speculation come in that a Christian because of his beliefs could never become a Mason? It is based on the fact that the Freemasons state they allow all religions to enter their group. It is known that not all religious groups believe in Christ in the same way that the Christians do. The Christians believe that if they do not accept Christ as their way to get into heaven then there is no other way. Other religions do not abide by this. So how could a Christian become part of this organization that says a member must believe in a Superior Being??

The argument goes further. If there are Christians amongst the Masons that have the Christian belief then they are amongst those who they call their brothers that are non-Christian.

In addition to all of this the Freemasons also lays out a plan of salvation, which is depicted, with their ritual of the Common Gavel. It is said by some that this ritual is directed towards those who do not believe in Christ.

Therefore, what is believed to be the actual stand that the Freemasons have on religion. It is indicated that the Lodges have one main deity called the The Great Architect of the Universe?. In the lodge, all members must pray to this deity. They supposedly have a ritual that is based on the afterlife called the slaying and raising of Hiram Abif, who is know to be the Hero of the Masons.

The argument based on actions such as this would raise a better question as to what do Freemasons constitute as a religion if they do not consider themselves as such. In answer to this, some will say they do not have all of the constitution of what constitutes religion. They are referring to no creed, no claim to faith or doctrine, no theory and no worship regimes. They have no religious symbols such as those found in other religions. They raise no money for religion.

It is well known and that the Freemasons date back to at least the 1700?s and most likely even further than that. In those days, it was simply a gathering of stonemasons that enjoyed each others fellowship. It grew over the years as to what we now know as the Freemasons. It would seem more emphasis is placed on the fellowship as opposed to the literal sense of the trade of masonry.

Organization Structure Of Freemasonry - Masonic Secrets

Freemasonry teachings and practices of the secret fraternal order officially known as the Free and Accepted Masons, or Ancient Free and Accepted Masons. Many people have heard of or are familiar with the order of Mason. Their formal name is the Free and Accepted Mason or Ancient Free and Accepted Masons. Although the names differ slightly the concept on which they are based remains rigid as it has for numerous years.

The oldest Lodge in existence is the Grand Lodge of England. They have their own set of bylaws instituted as far back as 1723. These laws are based on loyalty to the Government, and acceptance of various religious beliefs. Although this sounds basic of what most types of organizations or club would stand on, it goes beyond that. To begin with, they are the most secretive organization in the world. This high standard of secrecy as led some countries to ban the formation of the Freemasonry, or opening of a lodge.

Interestingly enough there is not one main leader. Each Grand Lodge has its only Grand Master. One would think without one person being in control that each Lodge would be a stand-alone unit forming their own concepts and way of doing things. On the contrary, these Lodges are very much like a franchise. Where each and every one has a code of rules and ethics to follow and apparently they do.

Although highly secretive about details regarding their organization they are known to conduct ritual, which includes the symbolic tools of the historic masons who built many of the old buildings such as castles and cathedrals dating as far back and the 1700.s. Part of these rituals, include the historical concepts of the building of King Solomon?s Temple.

All Mason members must believe in a supreme being. The Lodges have their own religious book albeit no reference to it being the Holy Bible, as we know it. It would seem the holy book they refer to is based on the religious beliefs of that particular Lodge?s members. This raises an interesting question. Does this mean that one Lodge may be comprised of all Catholics, while another is composed of the Jewish religion?

As we have mentioned that, this fraternity is a very organized body. There are degrees within the Freemasonry. To begin with, the lower level or basic unit is called the Blue lodge. This is found within the Masonic Temple. There are three degrees based on the mason?s level of training literally. They are the blue degrees and are as follows?

Level 1: First Degree -Entered apprentice

Level 2: Second Degree-Fellow Craft

Level three: Third Degree - Master Mason

You can see how these marry up with the three levels of the historic Masons being the apprentice, journeyman and the master. It?s very seldom that a regular Mason would advance beyond a Master Mason. That doesn?t mean he still cannot advance however.

The Master Mason if he so chooses to do so can participate in over 100 rites all-different in nature that can lead to in excess of a 1,000 higher degrees. Now the various rites can get somewhat complex as they differ according to Country. The following is a condensed summary of some of the more prominent orders.

Scottish Rite: 30 higher degrees are available to The Master. Starting at the fourth degree, which is Secret Master up to the Sovereign Grand Inspector General, which is the 33rd degree.

York Rite: 10 higher degrees available. Starting at Mark Master up to Knight?s Templar. This would be equal to the Sovereign Grand Inspector Master.

Prince Hall Grand Lodge The majority of members in this group are the African-Americans.

Veiled Prophets of the Enchanted Realm. Known to be the fun group of the fraternity for the Blue Lodge Mason.

Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine They were formed in’72 to be a social order. They main purpose is to support the children?s Hospitals.

Order of the The Eastern Star Membership only open to Master Masons and their respective female relatives.

De Molay For boys only

Jobs Daughter or Rainbow Both for girls only

Over the years many Historic figures have been linked to the order of Masons such as Benjamin Franklin - Philadelphia order John Hancock & Paul revere - St Andrew?s Lodge Noston George Washington.

In all there have been about- Presidents publicly known to have been Masons, as well as numerous members of congress. The Mason Lodges are not welcome in all countries though or approved by all religions. The Roman Catholics are against their followers becoming members. The Lodges that were once found in Italy, Austria and German were considered to be offshoots of fascism and Nazism and were eradicated. No Lodges are in to be found in China.

During the day apply a light lip gloss, a touch of bronzer to the cheeks and a lashing of mascara. This will generally be enough to make you look healthy, natural and well groomed.

If you have some problem areas on your skin, you can use a cream concealer to hide them. Place concealer on top of spots, under eyes to conceal dark circles or cover uneven skin tone. A little white eyeliner applied to the inner eye lid can also make eyes appear brighter and larger. Instead of going for dark shades of lipstick, use a nude gloss, which can make your lips look plumper and poutier.

Perfume should be the crowning touch in your beauty routine. Every woman should have a range of perfumes that they have for every occasion. A light, floral, feminine fragrance is great for use throughout the day and spicy, rich, seductive scent is great for use in the evening. A woman should also have their signature perfume, which is a constant presence in their fragrance collection and people associate with them.

By paying attention to fine details such as health, beauty, cosmetics and perfumes you can look great all the time with little effort and fuss. It does not have to take a lot of time, money and effort to look gorgeous: a few simple changes to your routine using your health beauty cosmetics perfumes can make a huge difference to your overall appearance.
